Academic status (current / emeritus / deceased) is noted honestly rather than assumed — many senior figures in this field have retired or passed away, and several of their landmark works remain standard reading regardless. Names link to the scholar's institution rather than an individual faculty page, since personal profile pages tend to break far more often. This list leans toward figures with a durable, citable body of work rather than every current faculty member everywhere; it will always be partial.
